7 Ways to Decorate Your Pergola This Spring

Mar.17.2020

If you’re like us, you can’t wait for family gatherings and backyard BBQs after these long winter months. Here at Mesa Awning, we pride ourselves in the variety of pergola designs and installations we’ve done around Phoenix, AZ. And this year, we’re taking our services a bit further by putting some suggestions together for how you can spruce up your pergola this spring.

1. Lights

Nothing says it’s a summer’s night gathering like a string of outdoor lights. If your pergola could use some mood lighting, string up a couple of strands to give you plenty of lighting for those intimate evenings at home or to make this a great entertainment area for your guests.

2. Install an Awning

Arizona sun can be dreadful, but don’t let it deter you from getting the most out of your backyard space. Instead, beat the heat by installing a retractable mesh or canvas awning to the top of your pergola. You’ll enjoy extra shade all season long, and it will add another stunning feature to your backyard décor.

3. Add Greenery

Potted plants love to hang in the sun, which means you can utilize the outer posts of your pergola to hang some of your favorite plants. This creative hanging spot will add some greenery and floral accents to your back yard without taking up space on the patio.

4. Hang a Hammock

If lounging under your pergola with a cold glass of lemonade or iced tea is your favorite way to spend a Sunday, then take it to the next level by hanging a hammock between the posts of your pergola. You’ll enjoy plenty of sunny napping time and won’t have to worry about setting up your hammock in the yard.

5. Install a Fire Pit

The space beneath your pergola is yours to play with, so why not make it even more chic with a stone fire pit? If you don’t want to burn wood, install a gas fire pit with stones or marbles in the center to give your guests a cozy place to congregate on those cooler spring nights.

6. Put Up Curtains

Depending on your privacy needs or wants, you might opt to hang outdoor curtains around your pergola. Not only does this provide more shade and relief from the sun, but it’s also a classic way to spruce up the structure. Install some tiebacks around the posts so you can move them to the side, or let them hang straight for any occasion.

7. Hang a Swing

Everyone loves a good porch swing, but have you have thought about hanging one on your pergola? Give your family and guests somewhere new to sit by installing a wood or metal bench swing. Stain it the same color as your pergola, or go with an accent color for more visual effect.
